background is important

Last Friday I met a guy from the States who was here in Taiwan visiting my customer to train them on some communication equipment. His company, not so coincidentally, is not far from mine back in Virginia, and he sells us alot of this same equipment, although I had never met him. So he stopped by my office to say hi.

That night I ran into him again in a bar. And we were talking over beers, and the topic of my previous employer came up. And it turned out that his wife, before they met, worked at the same place. And the same section. And the same boss… and the same project! Which was strange, because there were only like 4 people on that project, and I didn't remember her. But it turned out that she was an intern who worked there for 9 months during the year that I was on leave to go to Singapore in '96. Before I took leave, I had installed this project at a site in Virginia and another in Maine. When I left, she and the other guys installed it Greece, Guam, and various other nice places to visit.

So… wierd coincidence.

Today I IM'ed one of the other 4 guys I was working with back then, to tell him the story and ask about this person.

“Did he tell you about how she almost missed her flight home from Greece because she was screwing two Marines?”

“Uh… no.”

“Yeah, I guess he wouldn't have known about that.”
