all over the map
I should go to bed. In Taiwan I had a daily 8:00AM meeting so I got used to (usually) getting up and out the door by 7:15, even if I was out late. Today I woke up at 8:50 and just barely made it in to my office by 10. Kinda hard to get motivated when nobody notices when you get in, what you do during the day, or when you leave.
I could write more about work, but maybe another time.
I just remembered tonight that I was supposed to have renewed my driver's licence, and so I've been driving without a valid one since Tuesday. So I guess there's another day where I won't be in to work before 10. I hope they don't arrest me at the DMV when I show up. “How did I get here? Uhhh.. bus?”
I guess since I criticized the new Batman movie before it came out, I should admit that we went and saw it, and it was good. I suppose you read the reviews back when it came out, so there's not much I can add. Just wanted to admit I was wrong. It gives me a wierd little thrill. I need therapy.
I just bought a little chinese faux-antique medicine cabinet on ebay. I had been looking at these in Taiwan and if I had found one there I would have brought it back, but never could find one for sale. I did take a picture of one.
Two years ago I tried to join a kickball team here, and had some problems and so never got on a team. I kind of gave up in disgust. I tried to get off their mailing list, but apparently that was too much to ask so I keep getting email. And now they say they need players again, and I'm thinking about joining. Part of me wants to get out and be active and social, and part of me knows that I will probably hate these people. I'm a crabby old man.
Every Independance Day since we've lived here, someone buys a big pile of really expensive fireworks and shoots them off in the soccer field. Totally illegal of course, but half the neighborhood shows up to watch until the cops show up a half hour later. So this year there are signs plastered up on all the mail boxes, from the home owners association, warning of dire consequences for anyone caught using illegal fireworks. $5000 dollar fine! Six months in jail! What I don't understand is why the HOA should get so upset about it. It's not like any property is in danger. The worst thing that could happen is someone blows off a finger or something, which would be tragic, but that's a risk they took, why should these nitwits be trying to scare people? They should go to Taiwan during Lantern Festival and really get their nickers in a bunch.
OK, that's the last time I'll say something so idiotic.
One more thing: we'll be doing a live radio show over at the pAved Earth tomorrow (Friday) night, at the standard time, 9:00 EDT. Click the “Tune In” link and then come in the chat room to say hi, while we ramble, play music, and drool like monkeys for a few hours.
What should I write about here next time? Give me some ideas. We're going on vacation next week though so it may have to wait.
