There was a moment in college I remember very vividly. Twenty-year-old males have a wide variety of interests, depending on one's personality. The latest sports car, the hottest video game, some sweet stereo system, various body parts of the girl in the third row of Western Philosophy. One day a friend and I were having a conversation: “Dude, did you see the new oscilloscopes they have in the lab? They've got built in printers, and a 2 gigahertz sampling rate! So fucking sweet!” And we looked at each other… and knew that life was effectively over.
Eventually I got back to real priorities, but now I have money, and so I'm regularly checking out (lusting after) new cameras online, or new mp3 players, or new cars. (Not so much new women any more though, but that's fine.) Today I saw another cool new thing online, and thought to myself “Awesome! I gotta get me one of those!” And then… realized that this was another one of those moments, and oh my god what has happened to me.
