TiVo me all night long.
I’ve been somewhat considering ditching DirecTV and going back to cable. One reason for that is that DirecTV has basically abandonded any support for the DirecTiVo, which is now light years behind in terms of the features that the regular TiVo’s have been upgraded with. But it sounds like it’s still better than what I would get if I got the Cox digital cable DVR:
Pleh: We moved from DirecTV with the DirecTiVo to Cox Digital with the Scientific Atlanta 8300HD DVR. It was an immediate shock just how primitive the SA DVR was compared to the DirecTiVo, but I also figured that part of our negative reaction might just be because the SA is different; after a little while, we’d adjust and it wouldn’t feel so bad. Wrong. Now, almost two months out, it’s still bad and we’re longing for a TiVo.
He’s got a longer review if you’re interested. Short answer: A real TiVo is much much better, but hopefully Cox will be upgrading this box with the TiVo OS.
There are even more reasons we hate the SA8300HD now. My wife and I reeeealy want to splurge for the S3 TiVo now, but the more fiscally sane person in us (we have a fiscally sane person??!?!) says we should wait and see how the TiVo service from Cox is. Will we make it? I’ll give us a 35% chance.
(Thanks for the link.)
